Frequently Asked Questions

Tour - FAQs

How much food will we eat on the tour?

Our tours includes ample tastings from 5-6 (or more) local eateries — depending on the tour — and collectively provide enough food for a satisfying lunch/brunch for most people.

We have a reputation for providing Texas-sized portions: so come hungry and leave happy!

Do we only walk around and sample food?

Heck no! In addition to delicious food tastings, we also serve up a hearty helping of local McKinney commentary. You’ll learn interesting tidbits about the backgrounds and inspiration of the chefs/owners behind the eateries we’ll visit, as well as plenty of historical, cultural, and architectural information relevant to the historic downtown McKinney Square. There’s something for everyone on each of our tours.

Are children allowed?

Children are always welcome! Children 10 and older require a ticket and will be served the same food tastings as adults. Please be mindful that most tours will last 3 hours in length and will include walking and some standing as we explore the downtown McKinney Square.

Parents, who know their children best, should assess the situation individually. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

What restaurants will we be visiting on the tour?

A list of all the current tasting locations can be found on each tour’s description page. While rare, tasting locations are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Please be sure and let us know if you (or anyone in your group) has a dietary restriction (e.g. vegetarian, diabetic, food allergy, gluten free etc.) when you purchase your tickets. As long as we know in advance of the tour, we can do our best to accommodate your needs. It is very challenging to make changes when notified the day of the tour.

How much walking is involved?

It depends on the tour — the length of each tour is included on the tour description page. In ALL cases for ALL tours, we walk at a very relaxed pace and are seated at all of the restaurant tasting locations. In the summer months, we take good care to keep you in the shade as best possible when outside, as well as providing water at all stops to keep you cool and hydrated.

What should I bring with me?

Bring your appetite! But seriously, having a camera/smartphone is a good idea so you can capture all your food and sightseeing pics as well as wearing comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for Texas’ (typically warm) climate. During the summer, we also recommend sunscreen and sunglasses. We’ll have water at every tasting stop but feel free to bring a bottle of water along for the walking periods.

What do we do in case of bad weather?

The tours are held rain or shine because the food tastes great in any weather. Texas weather is usually good year-round, but we suggest you check the weather conditions for the day of your tour and dress appropriately.

Are beverages served on the tour?

Water will be served with every tasting on all tours. Depending on the tour offering, there may be beer tastings or cocktails provided with the adult/21+ tour ticket purchased.

I live in the McKinney area, is there anything on this tour for me?

Absolutely! Many of our tour guests are local yokels! While you may be familiar with the downtown Square, our walking route, and some of the tasting locations, we hope to offer up new food items and the opportunity to learn more about the establishments themselves. We’ll be sharing many interesting insights around the chefs/owners of these fine establishments and why they chose to call McKinney home. Besides, there’s always something fascinating and new to learn about McKinney’s rich history!

As a local, you’ll have the unique advantage to re-visit many of the eateries on the tour, as well as others we recommend, all at your leisure. It’s also a great opportunity to show off our lovely historic downtown Square to visiting family and friends or co-workers!

Is there parking available?

Parking is available at nearby parking lots and on the street. Specific parking information will be provided on your ticket confirmation email which is sent after you purchase your ticket. Downtown McKinney Map.

The Downtown Area Shuttle, or DASH for short, is an electric, six-seat shuttle that scoots around historic downtown McKinney taking shoppers, diners, and visitors where they need to go. Best of all, riding with DASH is free! Just give him a wave or call 469-733-DASH and hop on!

Can I shop on the tour?

We ask that you please wait to shop until after the tour ends so that we can stay on our food-tasting schedule and continue with the informative narrative and food tastings in a timely manner. With that said, we don’t mind if you’re a quick shopper!

Guests are also provided discount coupons for each tour stop and we encourage you to use them either after the tour or on another downtown visit at your leisure.

Is alcohol sold on the tour?

Yes – depending on the tour purchased, we currently offer beer tastings and cocktails with tickets for adults over 21. Guests may also purchase alcohol at any tasting stop, time permitting.
